February’s newsletter

Hi all, hope everyone is in good health and has a really good February. Strictly Murder was very well received and had a successful run as always all the hard work by everyone involved paid off and special mention to Paul Leffler on his first play as director i am sure he will direct many more. Salt of the Earth is next up and i believe rehearsals are going really well. The new P.S.C.C will be in place for the new season which will consist of Linda Donbavand, Anne Woolley, John Naughton, Tracey Dawson and Kath O’Leary and i trust they will choose great plays to carry on our high standard.

The first members night will take place this Friday the 10th and we will be entertained on the night by our very talented youth group, so i hope to see as many people down as possible not just to show support to our youth group but to have a drink and a catch up with old and new friends so lets make the first one a good one.

The Chairman’s ball is not far away now and its a night i am really looking forward to if its anywhere near as memorable as the last one we are all in for a great night, so for all of you who are going i look forward to seeing you on the night.I must say a huge thanks to everyone who has been involved in organizing this event especially Abby Shaw who has worked tirelessly putting everything together.

As some of you may know that our good friend Jim Stirrup suffered a nasty fall 7 weeks ago and is still in hospital, i have a lot of time and respect for Jim,and if you would like to send him a card with your best wishes the just inbox his daughter Cathy Owen, and i’m  sure like me you wold want to   wish him the speediest of recovery’s.

I have had many people ask me when the quiz of the year will be at the moment it is penciled in for the members night following Salt of the Earth, it is now in its 4th year and will be held in the new bar for the first time, and i can promise you it will be the best yet.

So that’s all from me i hope to see lots of you on Friday the 10th and then at the Chairman’s ball on the 1st April. i’m pretty sure in my next blog there will be a few stories to tell, stay safe, keep smiling and hope you all have a peaceful March

January Newsletter!

Hi everyone, and welcome to my first newsletter of the year. Every month I will be chatting about news and events of that month and what we can look forward to in the coming months.

The New Year arrived with everyone looking forward to the opening of the new bar “next door”. Even though we held the Christmas party there the panto would be the first production that our audience could experience it for the first time, and no-one was disappointed.

What a fantastic new bar it is. So many people have commented on how amazing it looks and some said it was on a par with theatre bars in Liverpool and Manchester and I could not agree more. Huge thanks to the hard work done by our former chairman Martin Green, out treasurer Peter Hall, deputy chairman Ryan Shaw, bar manager Declan Green and many others. I am sure like me you are all very proud of our new facilities.

The panto was, as it always is, a brilliant show – loved and enjoyed by young and old alike. We never fail at WLT to produce a panto that is as good as any professional production you will see anywhere. A great script once again by Bill Collins, produced expertly by Tracey Dawson, Louise Hawkes and Mark Lloyd, plus an amazing cast and crew. Well done to everyone!

The next production Strictly Murder is a cracking thriller and rehearsals are well under way. Making his directorial debut is Paul Leffler, and I’m sure we wish Paul all the best with directing his first production. The show dates are Feb 22nd to March 4th.

Following that is Salt of the earth directed by Tara Haywood. Auditions were well attended and the play has been cast, so good luck to everyone involved in that show.

We had a birthday celebration which was held in the new bar the other week. Wendy Cox was the birthday girl and everyone had a fantastic time – I couldn’t be there unfortunately due to puppy power… our new Labrador puppy Elphaba is taking up most of our time at the minute, but judging by the photos on Facebook Wendy’s bash was enjoyed by everyone.

I have decided to bring back members night on the Friday that follows the end of a production so the first one will be on the 10th of March. When I first became a member over 10 years ago I loved the members nights on a Friday, it was a chance to meet up and have a chat with people that you may not have seen for a while. Let’s face it, once a show has ended you may not see a fellow cast member for months. I want these nights to also be an opportunity for new members to come down and meet people. Ideal if they are not just interested in acting, they can meet heads of other departments either on the technical side or backstage or wardrobe etc. So I hope to see lots of you down on that first night the 10th March. I will be reminding you in next month’s newsletter.

Nominations are now in for the P.S.C.C and this will be voted on at the next Management Committee meeting on the 14th February. The 2 people stepping down this year are Andy Blake and Lesley Kellet, and I would like to thank them both for their hard work in producing excellent seasons.

A quick mention for the Chairman’s ball which is being held at Haigh Hall on the 1st April. All the info you need is on our Facebook page and I hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.

Well that’s all from me for this month. I hope to see you all at some point during the run of Strictly Murder. Have a peaceful and happy February.
